JRS Asia Pacific takes the proverb of teaching a man to fish to heart, providing skills training to refugees in an attempt to help communities of refugees become self sufficient. Services include providing seedling funding for urban community centers, language training and vocational training. Such initiatives are implemented in many spheres – crafts, rice sales, farming – and go beyond the economic aspect (self-sufficiency, earning an income) to encompass human (restoration of dignity and hope) and social (integration, community initiatives) elements.
