Thailand: Today is the day to push for clearing 500 km of mines
Bangkok, 4 April 2012 – Thailand has cleared more than 1,500 km of mines in 10 years. But more than 500 km still needs to be cleared. With people being affected by these deadly mines every year, Landmine Awareness Day is the time to ask for more to be done.

International: Condemnation of Thai use of cluster munitions in Cambodia
Geneva, 6 April 2011 – Based on two separate on-site investigations, the Cluster Munition Coalition (CMC) has concluded that Thailand used cluster munitions on Cambodian territory during the February 2011 border conflict. Thai officials confirmed the use of cluster munitions in a meeting with the CMC on 5 April.

Cambodia: Landmine remains a daily mortal danger

Washington DC, 18 November 2010 – A homemade truck ran over a landmine in Cambodia Tuesday killing 14 people – including a 6-month-old infant, police said. The incident occurred in Battambang province in northwestern Cambodia. The local chief of police said in addition to the infant the dead included eight women and five men.

International: Cluster bomb ban treaty takes effect
London, 29 July 2010 – The Convention on Cluster Munitions takes effect on Sunday, 1 August 2010, when it becomes binding international law in countries around the world. In dozens of countries, campaigners from the Cluster Munition Coalition (CMC) will join UN agencies, governments and international organisations in events celebrating the swift entry into force of the most significant disarmament and humanitarian treaty in over a decade.
