Global: new guidelines on detention, a step forward 27 septembre 2012 Brussels, 27 September 2012 – Amid growing concern of the abuse of detention as a way of controlling the flow of asylum seekers, this week the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) published new guidelines for governments dealing with the issue. | Asia Pacific: The Rohingya: Between the devil and the deep blue sea 11 avril 2011 Bangkok, 11 Aril, 2011 – In January 2009, the Rohingya hit international media headlines when the world saw images of hundreds of emaciated boat people being rescued off the Andaman Islands of India and in Aceh, Indonesia. They had been intercepted in Thai waters, transferred to deserted islands, tortured and eventually cast adrift by the Thai military on the high seas, in boats without engines and with little food and water. | Thailand: When school interferes with family income: a photo story 05 avril 2011 Ranong, 6 April, 2011 – Ranong is a small coastal town. Population 25,000, most people earn their income from the sea — working in hotels for tourists stopping off before heading to an island or into Burma; working on fishing boats for weeks at a time to haul in squid, prawns and fish; working in fish processing factories to prepare the meat for distribution all over Thailand; or working in local shops and stands selling the fresh fish. | Indonesia: Weathering the Storms 13 décembre 2009 “What is a Jesuit? I get asked this question all the time.” Zainuddin, a young man from Jogjakarta, received a Muslim education from elementary to university level. His interest in Jesuits arises from his work as education officer with JRS in Aceh, a region in northwest Indonesia hard hit by the 2004 Tsunami and by civil war that ended in 2005. | Asie Pacifique: coopération régionale... un rêve impossible? 28 décembre 2012 Bangkok, 28 décembre 2012 – Des millions de réfugiés et de demandeurs d'asile luttent dans leur recherche de sécurité en Asie Pacifique. Avec le plus faible taux de signataires de la Convention de 1951 dans le monde, cette région* offre une protection dérisoire aux personnes en déplacement. L'absence flagrante de lois nationales d'asile et de procédures normalisées pour la détermination du statut de réfugié pousse les demandeurs d'asile à la clandestinité. Con el menor número de signatarios de la Convención de Refugiados de 1951 de todo el mundo, esta region ofrece una precaria protección a quienes huyen de su país. La falta de leyes nacionales de asilo y de procedimientos estandarizados para la determinación del estatuto de refugiado obligan a los solicitantes de asilo a vivir en la clandestinidad. Con il più basso numero di firmatari al mondo per la Convenzione per i Rifugiati del 1951, questa regione offre una protezione insufficiente alle persone in fuga. Globale: nuove linee guida sulla detenzione, un passo avanti 27 septembre 2012 Bruxelles, 27 settembre 2012 – Mentre cresce la preoccupazione in merito all'abuso della detenzione come strumento di controllo dei flussi di richiedenti asilo, questa settimana l'agenzia delle Nazioni Unite per i rifugiati (UNHCR) ha pubblicato nuove linee guida per i governi riguardo a questo tema.
